About Fabio
Fabio, the guy who everybody knows was born in Pisa 1974. Having spent most of his life in Tuscany he has recently moved to London. The other Fabio, the “tanguero” was born in the remaining months of the last century in a flat in Madrid after being enchanted by the sounds coming from his flatmates CD. He discovered that this melancholic music so biting and proud was called tango, an entire world made by music, lyrics, dance, literature and traditions. Since that moment, step by step, hug by hug, night by night tango became a faithful companion. Fabio el Garufa, who comes alive when a bandoneon plays, sometimes gives up dance to be a Musicalizador in order to share music with his friends in milongas and on the radio.
About el Garufa
I like to reach into the milongueros feelings, suggesting music, in order to create the right ambience of music, connection and embrace.
My milongas are traditional with “tandas y cortinas”, playing both old orchestras….the ones who made tango history and also the newer ones too. It’s good to have a mix…. the newer tango exponents add a vividness that can enrich the tango experience.
In my musical selection I never miss Canaro, Biagi, Di Salri and Pugliese but also Gente de Tango, Color Tango and Sexteto Milonguero. Always great orchestras and songs just to follow tango dancer's step in the ‘tango hug’.
I usually play Tango-Milonga-Tango-Vals sequences, as I think it makes the dance floor more dynamic but every milonga has its own rules and its costume and I adapt my style accordingly. Tango is the King but milongueros are the Queen.
Sometimes if the atmosphere is right, I like to introduce new music and sounds such as tango nuevo, tango contemporaneo or no-tango... I like to expand our boundaries and creativity…“La vida es una milonga y hay que saberla bailar” (Life is a milonga and we have to be able to dance it).
